Vocalist Jizzy Pearl puts down the microphone and picks up a pen and, out of his twisted imagination, comes a book, “I Got More Crickets Than Friends.” While he might not rank up there with the likes of Stephen King, he does manage to keep you entertained from page one all the way to page 235 with a collection of twenty two short stories.
Jizzy has managed to carry the rock ‘n’ roll attitude (which is FUN, people) over to the print world. A perfect example is the story “Colon Hydrotherapy.” A guy goes to the doctor because he can’t “poop” and all sorts of fun things happen to him. I really can’t say too much because I don’t wanna give anything away. It would be like watching “The Sixth Sense” and knowing that Bruce Willis is already dead when the movie starts. There wouldn’t be any fun in it if you know the ending. But, I can hint at what you’ll expect. Oh, there’s all kinds of goodies, a sleazy rock band performing for a rich bitch (“House Party”), a fat chick with a bad case of the pukes (“Tami’s Fat Friend”), a deceased animal with the gift of gab (“Dead Dog”), java induced road rage (“Coffee”) and even a little nod towards the King’s “Misery” (“Trust”).
All in all, “I Got More Crickets Than Friends” is a book that will make you laugh, make you cry, make you think and it might even make you throw up. It’s like a roller coaster ride through Jizzy Pearl’s imagination and, let me tell you, this guy can imagine a whole hell of a lot. It doesn’t matter if you’re a fan of his music or not, it doesn’t even matter if you know who he is. You just have to read this book!
